    The officer got bread & water for 10 days? on a ship so I wonder is that the “hole”. But he was fined, $60.00, a lot of money back then. !!!

    I am sure they are young...maybe her letters slowed down. Maybe he's worried about what might happen to him. I am sure he's lonely and longing for home.
