Ten years ago, a neighbor lady that was moving, gave me a boxful of Precious Moments figuines in the original boxes. Her father would buy them for her as gifts over the years and she never really liked them. I was suprised (pleasantly) at the amount they brought on Ebay. There was even a girl at work that gave me a nice lot price for the 10 or so I had left over....She was thrilled to get them...........we both won. I admidt I am tempted if I see a nice one in the box still, cheap at the flea market......but so far resisting the temptation. But some can go for pretty good money. I just don't know the difference yet,

I just remembered I bought and sold a PM item years ago. It was the one of a nurse giving a teddy bear an injection. It had the tag but no box. I found it at a garage sale for $1 I think and thought it was cute so I would give it a go.
I see them quite a bit around here for sale, but I have no clue which one's if any are desirable at all and since I don't have a smart phone I can't look it up so I move onto items I know more about.

And now for my perspective ....I just came from a viewing for Walkers Nov 18th Inuit & 1st Nations auction.
The works are outstanding....many are old & some are true antique items.

The native art market is awash with also-ran collectibles but a few of the better auction houses still are finding collections of great value .
We'll see how this one does......but I'd venture it will do well.....& my stuff better kick ass !!!

Hi, Pat. You in particular are one not to disappoint ...............but I am going to cop a plea and say no. This is an open forum and you understand that I would like to pick that up for as little as possible and therefore don't want to invite competition.

Hinted at in my first post was that it's not in great condition, but it's not necessary for helpers to factor that in. More of a survey of experts as to where they feel the market stands at this point. What would you bid in a similar situation?

As for the piece, there may be a few hundred out there, or possibly 25 or less in circulation. To stir up more attention, I will say that there are two reasons this is rare. And no question it is pre-1900.

Komo, what's rarer than rare, scarcer than scarce? But obviously not one of a kind?
    :wacky: :p

The person who bought mine on eBay became a major buyer of large parts of my collection. I feel confident he still has it, and his is well preserved.

OldGuy, I can't offer any bidding advice so as not to steer you wrong, but I hope you win it and get it at a great price.
    Good Luck

Sight unseen, I'd say if it's in any kind of shape it's worth a flyer. I've gotten gold that way once or twice, but generally gotten costume that may or may not be brass. :)

I'll agree with the comments that "made to be collectibles" generally aren't.
There also are tides or trends in most areas of real antiques/collectibles.
I sometimes visit toy shows, and one sad area is that of vintage cast-iron toys. I see dealers with tables full of cast-iron toys that used to be selling for $300-$400 apiece, with no buyers at all regardless of price.
It appears that the vintage toy market is largely driven by older folks who remember what they played with as kids. Today the people who played with cast-iron toys have mostly passed on.
Those who played with die-cast and tinplate are still with us, so that market is still fairly strong; but we can expect that as those folks pass, that market too will collapse

I agree with you, Steve, and of course that's true. But I find it sad.

 My son and grandson were talking about the Millenium Falcon last week. I think they were trying to give me a major "hint," but that's just ridiculous!
