I carved a tall screaming mask from a piece of my neighbor's firewood when I was 14, for Halloween. Designed from memory - supposed to look like the "witch doctor" mask on TV's Scooby Doo cartoons. All the dark things in my life poured into that mask so it looked much scarier. A housemate stole in NC, and I was surprised to see it online once for sale as an "authentic" used African dance mask. Experts noted the backside as proving authenticity, when really, I just couldn't carve fast enough to leave room for my nose, so I used a blow torch, then chisled the char. I tried to call & tell them I made it, but nobody would listen.

HI Greg. Sorry, it's been 56 minutes since you left your message. I've been on the phone with HP tech support for my printer and monitor. Got the printer going OK, but not the monitor. I finally hung up after waiting for 22 minutes.

Yesterday I changed my avatar. OK, it's there, BUT who's using it and how did they get switched? I've not posted on any other threads. Been busy with my photo work. Hope to catch up with you later.

I haven't dealt with sundown since last night and can't remember how I felt.

I also have a problem here with staying logged in. I just typed all above and hit post. IT DIDN'T POST. So copied, logged in AGAIN, and pasted here. See below - IF IT STAYS THERE.

Gila, You're going to have to draw a picture to what you're referring.

I initially thought you meant just above MY left temple, not my avatars left temple.
I can't see any "locked box" in/on the avatar.

I assume this is a general statement, and not specific to the subject masks. The masks shown here from the Philippines are bakunawa a tribal dragon god. I'm ackowledge that these are produced as tourist trinkets, but they are in fact original to the pre-colonial filipino culture.

Hello Maria, welcome to the forum.
There is a lot of information here, but also a lot of fun, and ranting and raving.
A thread can go in an entirely different direction because of associative thinking.
The part you quoted was actually a plea against the appropriation by unscrupulous people of other people's cultural heritage. Some Balinese carvers are commissioned by 'art dealers' to copy Native American masks from the Pacific Nortwest Coast or make something in that style.

To avoid any misunderstanding of this particular Philippino mythical dragon (there are more):

Jag har en sådan Skulptur på väggen som väger 33 kilogram, är ca 1,5 meter lång. Annars ganska lik de småfigurerna.
Vad kan min demon skulptur kosta då?

I have such a sculpture on the wall weighing 33 kilograms, is about 1.5 meters long. Otherwise quite similar to the little figures.
What can my demon sculpture cost then?

I think the question is what is this worth, but above was google translate from Swedish.
