Yes, view from the bottom and also a view looking down on the top. Can't tell if there is a hole or depression in the top. If there is, how is it shaped and how deep is it?

 

His clothes look like he's dressed as a Puritan or an American Pilgrim...

Pocket watch holder ? I have one that adjusts in and out like the one in my picture , kind of reminds me of that ,

 

It does look like something (perhaps made of glass) might have fit in with the little curved areas on the upper part.

I don't know why he and the thing he is holding are all at an angle, though. Can't tell if it was bent/damaged or if that is the way it started out.

 

Obviously, the solderer who brought these two things together was in his cups.
