    Beautiful, gauntlett. Etruscan Revival.
    Another vote for turquoise.

I don't think I've ever seen variscite in 19th century jewellery. Only in pre-Historic and pre-Columbian or modern SW jewellery.

Green turquoise is a natural occurrence. A lot of turquoise is green, also straight from the mine. You can find it in Iran, where you'll find a huge range of turquoise colours, in other parts of Asia like Tibet and China, and also in Europe.
I seem to remember it's also found in the US and Mexico.

Hope your mom heals up quickly. My mother broke her hip years ago. Right now she just came back from the library and is hauling the trash can to the house on her way in.

Oh, that's awful! :( especially at old age, recovery may take some time.
    Wish her a quick recovery!

    Hi guys,
Talked to mom and she sounded good. I’m sure her happy pills are working but I felt relieved to hear her spirits were lifted.

Here is the back as promised. I’ve seen that loop at the end before but I don’t think I ever found out what it’s for. Is it some sort of extra safety so it doesn’t get lost?

Thank you for the help and well wishes. You guys are so wonderful

Think it's to stop you from sticking yourself or snagging the point in delicate fabric. It's a very well made piece. Not surprised it's 14K. Late archeological revival. Clasp is early 20th century.

Just to add to the encouraging comments, I broke my hip, was practicing with crutches the day after surgery. Have been fortunate that it healed well & I have never had any further problems due to the fracture. May your mom's experience be equally uncomplicated.

I can't tell by seeing it only in the closed position how your clasp works. Is there a lever that operates to lock the pin stem in? Around the turn of the 20th century, on high quality pieces, you find all sorts of attempts at devising a clasp that keeps the pin secure without needing the long pin that sticks out past the edge of the body of the piece. However, from what I can see, until you show me otherwise, your clasp, and hinge as well, look like ones that did not appear until the first third of the 20th. Is there any evidence that they are replacements? This is not uncommon, but usually leave signs of soldering.

That's what it looks like to me.
One of the early safety clasps, already used just before 1900, but together with that hinge I agree, early years of the 20th century.
