It is more matte in finish than glossy. It is slightly opaque. The dark mark on the back is apparently dirt - I was able to remove it.</p><p><br /></p><p>I&#039;ve always thought it was shell; rather than stone. But what kind? Certainly not abalone; I don&#039;t think it is a pearl (never heard of a cut pearl anyway)... she was a Florida gal who loved to travel... I&#039;ve no idea where she acquired it. </p><p><br /></p><p>Any help would be appreciated...</p><p>PS...
