What is this little silver bowl???

No one in the family wanted any of it except two or three pieces. If it were me and my families jewelry, I would have kept all the gold and silver and a lot of the costume, but that's just me.</p><p><br /></p><p>I spent 3 days sorting through and testing the jewelry, picking what I wanted and helping them decide what to throw away, give away and what to send to auction.</p><p><br /></p><p>I got a couple of other dealers involved, one who sells vintage and antique clothing, accessories and textiles. One who sells Wedgwood. A third who sells ink wells and misc. antiques. They were all very, very happy!</p><p><br /></p><p>Then they asked my help with some silver because they have no idea what any of the marks mean, what is silver and what is plate. So I spent a day sorting through it all separating out the silver plate and giving them an idea of what some of the marks mean. They are having a local auction house come by to take the silver.</p><p><br /></p><p>As I was packing up to leave the owners told me to pick out whatever I wanted in the room with the silver as a thank you because they were so grateful for the help I gave them. I chose this little bowl. The marks tell me it is by Wakley & Wheeler, sterling, London and 1892. But what was it made for? Just a nice little bowl?</p><p><br /></p><p>And what is that square with the dot over it on the bottom?
