Wandering around the only charity shop we have Chalon-sur-Saone, Burgundy, I spotted this pretty ribbon bow and thought it would make a nice going home to England present for my granddaughter. I couldn’t really look at it properly as I don’t like using a loop, unless I find a discrete corner. Back ‘ome, with the help of a loop, UV light and telephone camera I found this: 1 2 3 4 UV light showing diamonds as do 25% of diamonds 5 Blue display in sunlight 6 Chip of gold missing 7 Brooch fixation 8 9 Pin catch 10 Hinge I know less about jewellery than I know about any other collectable, and I know precious little about those. From the evidence I think the brooch is rolled gold based on the chip on photo 6. Photographs 4 and 5 suggest that they could be 4-diamonds about 2mm diameter i.e. 0.01 ct. The hinge, pin and fastener, point to anytime between 1930 and 1970. If I am correct then it might not be the right time to give it to a nine-year-old. How wrong is my analysis? All comments welcomed. Thank you.
