Wax seal and parchment

    Yup, that's why I'm saying conservation or museum grade.

    I sure hope it turns out to be the real deal. I think those large seals are uncommon.

    On some documents the seal would be protected in a silver box called a skippet. The Elizabethan period apparently predates sealing waxes involving shellac. Here's an excerpt from a book on silver boxes recently mentioned in another thread:

    Note that this refers to wax used to seal letters - not appended seals as with your item. For all I know, a seal like yours might have been made from a different material entirely.
