Not a fake, there is nothing missing, just a different version of the watch fob, and it is gorgeous.
Jakob Bengel made chatelaines, watch chains and fobs before he became famous for Art Deco/Bauhaus galalith and chrome jewellery.
The company started in the 1870s, and I certainly think your beauty dates from before the Art Deco period. To me the design looks 1910s.

Here are more Jakob Bengel watch chains and fobs, some in a similar style to yours:

A fob is simply a pendant that is attached as a decoration to something else.:)

These are some of my favorite watch chains. They were made of nickle-silver with enamel. All of the ones that I've seen or owned were pocket fobs. They were clipped onto a pocket watch and the watch put into a vest pocket or a breast pocket with its tail hanging out. I think that this style was for male use. Women also had pockets, including breast pockets but usually the women's fobs were daintier and made with gold and silver. I "think" that the time span was in about 1870-1890. I've never been able to find any documentation on where or when these were manufactured. I've always "felt" that they were made in Germany? I hope that someone here will be able to find info. on these so that I can be corrected/updated.

I think that this is great. I don't think that I was too far off with my suppositions. I think that "Any Jewelry" is right on the mark with Jakob Bengel. Thank you for this (elusive) information. You've made my day!

    jacob bangle :woot: cool!
I must have a box of old watches somewhere:borg:. but what type of pocketwatch is suitable for this watch chain? do you have some examples of watches from that time period?

Jakob Bengel. As in the Dutch word bengel, for a cheeky tomboy.;) Do you know the expression "een engeltje met een b ervoor"?:angelic: That's the one.:playful:

Just about any pocket watch would work, both hunters and open faced. The limiting factor would be the size. Some pocket watches are so heavy and bulky that they would be impractical. The slim pocket watches were preferred but it all depended on the wearer's preferences.

It would look best with a watch of the same colored metal.
