That blue-black tarnish is the key - and it is almost impossible to clean off. Don't even try it. My mother had a Wm. A. Rogers coffee pot she was given as a 25th anniversary gift - early 70's. When I was getting everything ready for auction in 2011, I must have spent a whole day trying the get that stuff off the pot and finally gave up in despair.
