My search is unearthing only one F. C. Pound - born 1895 in England, arrived in New York, enroute to Winnipeg in 1915. Traveling alone (or at least not with family.) There is no one named Pound listed in the 1911 Canadian Census as living in Winnipeg, so I have to wonder whether A) the 1911 date in the ads about when the business was founded mean that Pound bought the business from another person who founded it in 1911 or B) the ads are mistaken.

Great research @Bakersgma it could very well be the ads date could be wrong.

Unless somehow he brought an already established flower business over to Canada with him, if that is possible.

Finally found him in 1921 census in Winnipeg. Occupation listed as "gardener." The problem was a combination of an enumerator with awful handwriting and a resulting transcription error.

And I also found him in the 1911 England Census with his parents. Age 16 and his occupation was listed as "postman."

All this story unfolded from a Cunard Label on a trunk, I’m blown away.

Thanks, VM. I've been a member there for over 9 years and have not only researched my own family, but have also done family research for a number of other people, including research for people here.

And the latest info - Assuming the Francis C Pound I found is the right guy, he was married twice. First in 1918 (divorced by 1920) and second in 1921. He and the second wife had at least one daughter - who emigrated to the US!

    Are you in California?

A is probably the answer. Guy seemed quite good at promoting the business, making it sound nice (free rose), innovative (drive-in) & respectable (1911).

Okay. There was a second daughter for whom I have not found a marriage (there's no wedding files on Ancestry for Manitoba) and therefore have lost track of her after 1946. Since there doesn't appear to be a Voting Registration Record for her under her maiden name, I assume she either got married or moved away.

What province did you buy the trunk in?

Here is a photo of the actual building I bought the McBrine trunk from, its the one with the sign painted on it. This was taken from my back door. I live in the old historic garment district here, it is more commonly known as The Exchange District, some warehouse buildings like mine were made into lofts. This area is a goldmine for vintage & antique shops, they are in close proximity to me.
