[QUOTE="kevinnc, post: 239982, member: 4730"]Hello, I have been lurking on these boards for a bit, and I am impressed at the breadth of knowledge displayed by this community! I figured it was time to stop hiding in the shadows, so I created an account and this is my official hello to everyone. :) Now that we're properly acquainted, I would like to request your assistance with something. My grandmother recently moved out of her home of 25+ years into a much smaller townhome in a retirement community. She needed to get rid of most of her possessions, and we managed to sell all of her "daily use" furniture via Craigslist or donate it to local charities. However she had some nicer vintage American-made pieces in her parlor room (the room that she always played bridge in and that we were never allowed to go into as kids). I say vintage rather than antique because I am pretty certain that they were all manufactured within the last 100 years. I convinced her to let me take those nicer pieces, store them at my place, and try to determine if they're worth anything. She was to the point of basically just giving them away, so I am hoping that they might actually have some value. I would love to surprise her with a small stack of cash - anything is better than nothing! Here's where I need some help - 1) Can you please help me try to identify these pieces? The obvious exceptions are the rugs, since they have tags. 2) Can you give me a rough idea of how much these might be worth to an antiques shop versus a private buyer (if there's much difference at all)? This will help me to determine whether I should just go the easy route and sell them all at once to a shop or take the extra time to try to sell them off privately one at a time.
