Unique oak desk/table?

    Thanks. The carving is minimal but does add a bit of value to the piece. The stenciled lot numbers tell us that it was a factory manufactured piece, but not which factory. The retailer probably added his own marking to it as well, possibly the chalk ones. I don't know of any research having been done on tracing factory lot markings, but some grad student somewhere must have looked into it. That would be a very welcome reference source, especially for the masses of late 19th century furnishing churned out in Grand Rapids, etc. The old Sears Roebuck catalogs are very helpful for finding examples but they also do not mention where the pieces are being made.

    Agree with Brad on value. Thinking Edwardian ca 1910-15; the table Fid posted seems later, ca. 1930-40.

    The cabriole legs on this one are deceiving, giving it an earlier look. The rest of the table, particularly the stretcher, is right for 1915.
