Ukrainian Soviet Trench Art Ring

The steel was cut out for the copper piece.The top edge of the steel was under cut,the copper plate placed into the recess.The 2 end areas and bottom edge was then "chased" down to hold the copper in.

 

Well ok, sure looks like aluminum but I’m not there to see it in person. I’d still say the cartouche is a separate piece though because it isn’t exactly square with the edges of the cavity, and there’s empty space around it. I’m a machinist and deal with various metals every day. Some of my fellow machinists hate aluminum for its softness, and they call it “shiny wood.”
