Featured Two vases, probably central European

Thank you. They really are quite exquisite -- but they don't have a place in our home and someone else will appreciate them more.

They've already given us far more than I could have imagined when I joined this forum late last year. The first two vases were among items we put to one side after my mother-in-law died and which I came here to find out more about.

I also somehow ended up with three second-hand books on Bohemian art glass. It's not going to become a major obsession, but we won't hurry past the relevant sections of museums and galleries from now on either.

The third vase is now going to join its friends at auction. Sending them out into the world to find people who appreciate them will be good. Getting some money in return will also be nice -- and make up for having to let go of bulkier items for nothing, or next to nothing, when we were clearing the house (and taking other stuff to charity shops because we didn't have a clue).

 

The vases were auctioned this past weekend. We are very happy with the results, both in financial terms and because the pieces are very likely to have found their way to people who will love them more than we did.

The hammer prices were:

1,200 EUR for the goblet vase I asked about first;

1,100 EUR for the second (Melusin) vase;

450 EUR for the Crete Papillon vase that we only discovered after contributors to this thread had alerted us to the fact that this glass is rather special.

I must admit that when reading this thread for the first time this morning without realizing when it was initially posted, I got a little catch in my throat when I saw Greg's comment. I hope he knew that he was so well thought of here and is missed.
