It is a good question. My Mom liked to buy old Arab-style coffeepots, while in the Middle East, and so I now have several; I know they are 1960 or older; but some were described by the sellers as being "very old" at that time. I just can't tell, and am not sure where one goes to find experts on items that came from that area, and may or may not have been made for local use or tourist sale. With many sorts of items the University and Museum folks are not necessarily familiar with tourist-ware.
I see some "old" ones on ebay selling for pretty good money, but have my doubts that they are really as old as the sellers say; still, I should probably try selling Mom's.
