My sterling silver pinstriped Montblanc fountain pen. Nabbed it for roughly 1/3 the going-rate on eBay. I absolutely love it!!

Well, as long as we’re talking about Montblanc pens…. I worked at a pen store a couple decades ago. Gentleman came in because he’d dropped the nib section of his Montblanc fountain pen down the drain of his hotel room, and was hoping to buy a replacement. Unfortunately we didn’t have a service license, so I couldn’t help him with that. Disappointed, he was standing in front of the Montblanc cabinets, grumbling about needing a pen but not wanting to buy something he already had multiples of.

I asked him if he travelled a lot, and he rolled his eyes and said he definitely did. So I showed him the Pilot Vanishing Point, and he about lost his mind (for non-pen freaks, imagine seeing a mechanic or carpenter use a ratcheting screwdriver for the first time). I also showed him some exceptional Pelican school pens, and a bunch of other fun stuff. We had a ball. By the time he got to the register, he had quite the pile, but his total was less than a mid-range Montblanc fountain pen and he was positively cackling with glee.

I’d put his poor decapitated pen in a box for safe keeping, along with the information he needed to order a replacement. When I tried to hand it to him as he left, he shook his head. Said “You keep it, kid, save me the trouble of going through all that nonsense.”

Which is how I got the limited edition Montblanc 75th anniversary fountain pen with a diamond on it (well, most of it, anyway) not only for free, but got paid for the time I spent getting it. I confess I replaced the nib section with an ordinary one, but it definitely brought me joy

The gentleman with the pen figured he got a good deal too. Pen guys love toys and he walked out with a bagful!

First time reading this thread. Thanks, @lvetterli , for resuscitating it.

And I notice a few people who haven't been here in a while, including the OP, @SYNCHRONCITY. Some others I may put in the Where the Heck Is... thread.
