Cheryl, you nailed it! I must say, I am relieved. The excitement of having a real Jacobite piece in the house would have been a bit too much. When my mother said she bought it in the 70s, she must have missed that one vital year, 1980. She gave it to me in the 90s to sell, I put it in a box, and forgot about it until I opened the box a while ago. I googled Highland targe pendant, Scottish sterling shield, etc. in several configurations, nothing came up. There was just that unbelievable, worn, date letter, so I posted it here. It is funny, I own several Shetland Silver items, the three Nornes brooch, Sleipnir earrings, etc., I never thought this could be Shetland. I can't find the targe in their present collection either, the jewellery I mentioned is still there. I will mail the lovely Anita and team that they won't have to bother. Chances are, they will anyway, because they never gave me a reference number and there is some time between my messages. Thanks Cheryl, and all of you, for spending so much time on my wee targe, and your combined effort to help, I really appreciate it.
