Question for the forum: Do artists have to get permission from Disney (Lucas Film) to create Star Wars themed works?

 

Pretty soon you'll need permission from either Disney, Apple or Google to use the toilet.

With Baby Yoda there, it does seem to have been done quite recently.

I'm all for artist creativity, and am assuming the original painting wouldn't have had much value. I was a little bothered several years ago to find online a photo taken by my great-grandfather's studio in the early 20th century. An artist who paints kind of blob-headed creatures had used it as a project and had painted a blob head over one of the people in the picture. When I told him that the photo was taken by my great-grandfather, he sent it to me. I still have it... the blob is a little bothersome, though. The people in the photo are not identified, so really the only value is probably to me. Fortunately I now have quite a few photos taken by his studio, and the condition of this one has just become a curiosity.

I don’t look in as often as I’d like. I don’t think any great art is being “defaced” and if these paintings wind up at a thrift, then they’re not wanted by the previous owners. It’s an amusing hobby, although the Northwest artist’s stormtroopers are coo” and original.
