Featured Spoons...

I have a large collection of late 1800's American silver plated flatware. I'm particularly fond of the 1890s patterns, so I usually recognize them right off.

 

The spoon is a souvenir of Florence, the finial depicting a harpy horse tether ring at Strozzi Palace, the bowl based on the Caravaggio Medusa. Suspect the fork is also a Florence souvenir, the griffin segreant (rampant) based on Donatello's shield at Martelli Palace...

A very different souvenir of Florence - hand-wrought, nicely engraved with almost cartoonish little birds, and a dragonfly that always reminds me of Evinrude from the Rescuers:

That photo actually shows part of a large, hand made wall cabinet that I purchased used. It was shallow, with a glass door front, and it was very oddly configured inside - undoubtedly for something specific (that I didn't have!)

I hung silver flatware pieces where there were notches, set little salts & the like where there were ledges, and basically, improvised.

There was a large space below what you can see in that photo. I displayed a collection of 12 or 15 sterling cordial glasses there.

(I shouldn't speak of the cabinet in the past tense - I do still have it, but like most of my silver, it's packed away!)

 

Thank ALL of you for sharing your collections!!!!!!!! I never knew that SPOONS were SO collectible!!!! You've all put a lot of time and love into displaying them beautifully!!!!!!!!! JUST WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Loved seeing these displays.
Inspired me to look for a way to display my spoons, etc.
Half an hour on with google led me to Pinterest for display ideas. Maybe this will be a good winter project.
Would love to hear people's thoughts on whether it would ever be realistic to try for a closed box display lined with protective cloth.

I love all the beautiful spoons! I got to thinking about some themes in some of the stock spoons. I usually like teaspoon size or larger spoons so they do get used from time to time. These are some very bad photos of some lady spoons.

For those interested, in that first pic, from top to bottom: Wallace 'Irian', introduced in 1902; Alvin 'Raphael', introduced in 1902; Watson 'Bacchante', introduced in 1895; Gorham 'Versailles', introduced in 1888.
