IIRC you can use whatever name you like, but you have to use your real one if you want people to be able to find you. Or believe anything you say, come to it.

    Lots of people do that.
Some use their first and middle name or a made up name.
A friend of mine goes under a David Bowie song title.
I know people who do it to avoid their ex’s etc.
As long as you behave and stay under the radar it’s not a problem. I can’t see you as a trouble maker @Marie Forjan :hilarious:

Thanks @KSW I certainly would not cause trouble.

My thing is I don't understand why people feel the need to put the minutia their lives out on the internet. Why would anyone post that they are going to the dentist, the grocery store, photos of what they ate for dinner? Why would anyone proclaim to the world they are going on vacation so their house is empty and ripe for a break in. Why would anyone broadcast where their children go to school, post their photos, what their schedules are? I don't even want to think about how easily a sicko could target them!

Sorry,... off the soap box now.

Back to the subject...maybe I will join stealthily so I can look at the marketplaces. I will talk to my friend who is incognito and see if they have had any problems :)

I have occupied the same soapbox in the past. :p:p

I never joined because I figured I spend enough time here so I didn't need another thing to distract me from getting things done.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've been on for years. I keep in touch with friends, family etc, and there are big groups of antique addicts there too. I don't post my food except for the annual stollen baking. That's kind of gone out with the novelty worn off. We do grouse about the weather though. With pictures.

I know, my sister is always trying to get me to join. She keeps up with our cousins and just reunited with the woman who was her maid of honor 45 years ago. I get it, but it just isn't for me.

Well , I’ve bought my first three items. Will see if they turn up before risking any more.

I'm very careful about what I post in terms of personal detail. The great thing is I've ended up both staying on touch with people I'd not otherwise see, and reconnecting with those I'd lost touch with. AS far as buying and selling goes, it's a bit more trust based than Ebay, to say the least. The person I bought the Liberty bangle from asked for a cheque, which has gone off. She's posted the bangle without getting the cheque.

    So far so good!

In my area, FB marketplace has usurped craigslist and competition for listed desirable items is fierce. I've gotten some great stuff!

It's been a combo of surfing FB market place this week and playing with my UV light. (!) I'm astonished at what some of my beads and bits have done.

I need to get some photos of the playing around. The glow on the older beads was amazing.

I have an aversion for Facebook, however.... I am on it for something I have found useful. There are a lot of private groups there focused on local history - of states, counties, cities, etc. For most of them, no politics are allowed, or anything else off topic or you get the boot. In these groups there are people pretty knowledgeable about the local history the group focuses on. I've found it useful for getting more information about old photos and real photo post cards I'm researching. And the people in the groups appreciate seeing old photos they haven't seen before.

And with any luck, those folks are also your buyers? Can't argue with that either, when it happens.
