@Figtree3 Sorry, I should have included that this is on paper over a board - there is a dent on this, shown in the last photo.
I thought there was something familiar about this too, so maybe it is a copy.
I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting to clean or do anything else to this. The colours look nice but I like the darkness of it, so it is fine to me.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Thank you, cxgirl! Just making sure...

Someone suggested that maybe an illustration for a book, so maybe that is why it seems familiar.

    School of Arthur Rackham, possibly.

Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

Holland, real name The Netherlands, is mostly filled land on water and is, as previously stated, flat as the sea. This image looks Mediterranean to me. Before you do ANYTHING to it, I'd recommend taking it out of the frame to see what it actually looks like. Please post more pictures of the work. I rather like it and am not put off by the colors. Many artists used subdued palettes and some paintings were done with paints that changed color over the years. Van Gogh is an example of that. I'd really like to see more images.

When I used to paint in all kinds of medium I used a spray acrylic on my work and it did Set/bring out the colors. Of course if you plan on selling it then let the new owner do what they want ;)

I have matt, semi gloss and high gloss depending on the medium.

Wow, that is interesting. Watercolor included with sketch book? I wonder if it is on a thick board like yours. So similar, makes you wonder if they included a watercolor with every Reeves sketchbook or something? Good research skills for the person on Facebook who found that.

It has an Edvard Munch feel to it.

Something is not right here. To start, the scale is wrong for the composition...which appears to be the work of a second tier master [I'm thinking along the lines of Auguste Macke, Vlaminck, etc.].

Is this possibly an elaborate facsimile?

Just can't tell anything from the pictures.

@Alec Sutton I don't believe this is a copy, it has paint on it. I do wonder if it is a piece like the one in the link I posted. Mine has series 315 24 sheets on the back label, so I'm hoping somewhere I can find more info on what this series was. I've sent an e-mail to the Reeves' Company to see if they have old catalogues and can shed some light on this.

Their item number for this particular 24 sheet watercolour block. Reeves is an old firm. They invented the watercolour block.

Apparently one of these pictures was included with the block. At least I think so...

It'll be interesting to find out.

I wish I could give some decent information on this piece. I LOVE it!!! Print or original, it's astonishing!! I always collect what I like. If it turns out to be worth more than I paid, even better. Wish I had this one, good job!!

This piece looks flat to me. All the subjects in the painting seem to blend in together. May be going out on a limb, but I see it like a number painting. I also get the vibe of the scene being some where like Mexico or South America, kind of like an old Spanish Mission. The way the Church sits higher than the homes below and is centered, leads me to believe that it's the subject of the piece. I'm no expert but that's what I'm feeling.
