Featured SLANT TOP DOCUMENT BOX/ DESK 17TH CENTURY?

Just wondering if anyone can pinpoint a time and place it was made.

 

In what part of the world did you find your box, Chris? What were you told about it? And would you be kind enough to go back to your original post and change your photographs from Thumbnail to Full Image? That will make it easier for everyone to see them.

Thanks Debora. i found it in New York and was told it was 17th century English.

 

Lens found your box that sold at auction

Doesn't sound like they knew the age either.

 

They identified it as both Jacobean (1603-1625) and "18th century or earlier." In other words, they didn't know.

I would also have guessed antique bible box reminds me of the a bible desk/table.

I know, that's why I wondered why one has a sold price of $414.37 and the other has $325

 

If you go to Evans's auction for the same item and click the 11 bids link, it shows that the $325 bid was the bid that won the auction. With buyer's premium, it is the $414 number. Extending their reach by listing the auction on various online platforms...?

 

This item has the same provenance.

I just bid on a painting on Invaluable & the buyers premium added an automatic 25% fee,add that to shipping & it can get really spendy.
PS-I didn't win.

Thanks Marote- The painting was estimated to go for $250-$500,final hammer price was $1100+ 25% markup & shipping,so it was wise I stopped bidding.

 

They were slightly off with that estimate.

 

Yes. When you subtract the buyer's premium of 27.5%, it leaves $325. But buyer was willing to pay $400+ total, so that's a clue to price range you could go for in a listing with no buyer's fee.
