Claude-Henri Belgrand de Vaubois a French general surrendered to the British in 1800, making Malta a protectorate and initiating 164 years of British rule.

Guessing there is a possibility it was translated to the Brits. French were long gone

Besides, Jean de la Valette may have been the most famous Grand Master, there were Grand Masters of other nationalities too. Every 'langue' in the order had its 'auberge' in Valetta, and the order's nobility had their own town houses and palaces.

Today's Malta has a much stronger British influence than French. French influence is something from a distant past.
De la Valette wasn't part of the French occupation, btw, he was much earlier.

Why do you say it was published as a language guide for the English? Is there a date on it somewhere?

Ok, so I had to download the photo to read the text, but it's the second Maltese translation (1934), the first was in 1916.

As such, I think it's value will be marginal - a curiosity to someone interested in St John's Ambulance. I'm sure most of the info it contains is still entirely valid.

yes it is second Maltese translation, apparently with some additional information that Sir Themi added to his version.

Zammit, being Maltese, probably did a better translation.

this was his addition to the previous translation at least according to note on the index… Also noted that there is a page that is upside down 642AFF7D-D641-4512-86D3-B462CEE618AB.jpeg
