I don't think the guiding has vanished .probably the photo I've taken.i think it's silver only because it's quite thin and it's completely all silver and no brass or bronze in sight .

I believe OBB has nailed it with Indian colonial silver salt with the gilding worn off. Gilding can wear off in a matter of a few short years if polished to hard or too often. Following is a pair of other cute little Indian colonial silver répoussé salts, unmarked. Note that they have fish feet also, but done a little different. These are around 3 1/4" in diameter and around 1 3/4" high.

Edited: BTW, this might be considered done in a Kutch design??

"Much Indian silver has no marking at all, but Kutch silver is distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, répoussé and chased design. The preliminary répoussé pattern was punched from back, after which the piece was filled with a resin compound, then worked from the outside, by hammering it into the resin. When the work was complete, the piece was heated until the resin filling melted out, leaving the now-empty piece stunningly decorated."

The piece could have been personalized with initials on the shield on the front.

    Then there are these:

I see quite a bit of Indian Colonial silver, as you might imagine. ;) Ady, the gilding would only have been on the inside.
