Forst is a town in Germany, in the east near the Polish border. So Forst could be the town, not a forest. And 'Forster' could be pertaining to the town of Forst. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forst_(Lausitz) Understandable. It is certainly difficult to find the meaning of each and every word, especially because it isn't present day standardised German. You'd probably need someone from the Lausitz region of Germany to make more of it than I did. The Lausitz is on the other side of Germany as seen from where I live, I am more familiar with dialects from the western border. I only know Knysna as a South African town? Dan isn't a very German sounding first name. I think it contained something more formal. Maybe a certificate saying that he was a member of the guild. I'll see if I can find a museum in the Lausitz. Our local museums know all about our guilds, so I'm sure a museum or archive there will be able to tell you more.
