<p>
This lovely painting was hanging in our daughters room. She moved out last year and was wondering who this artist was. It shows daily daily life scenes like sewing, washing, picnicking etc. I always joked that these were The Emperor's harem.</p><p><br /></p><p>Its signed bottom left in a gold color seal but I could not find the seal duo lack of knowledge and books. It seems that it is at least partly written in Hiragana, with the first two characters being likely "ri" and "se" ??? and the last character looks being written in Kanji to me?</p><p><br /></p><p>I'm not sure but I think that the third character is wrong because I could not find it and think that it should reads "<font size="7">わ せ 辰 </font>: WASE-TATSU or RESI-TATSU"??. Am I correct??</p><p><br /></p><p>The hairstyles are Edo period and can be found on 17th-18th c woodblock prints, but this one is not that old and it is also not a woodblock print.</p><p><br /></p><p>Appears to be an inked drawing that was over painted then highlighted in certain areas. Or could have used acrylic on darker areas. Acrylic paints were widely used in 20th century Japan. Paper is very like the standard watercolor paper used here. However it was not painted as some watercolors are! Most watercolors are done on soaked wet paper to get certain types of flow and layered color. This appears to be a surface technique on dry paper. Few of the lines are missed entirely! As in done rapidly (mass production??).</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Does anybody know this artist and is it something to hold on to?</p><p><br /></p><p>If you click on one of the pictures or link below than you can see some other closeups which are linked to a photo album with more pics.</p><p><br /></p><p>Any help is welcome.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/library/chinese%20painting?sort=3&page=1" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/library/chinese%20painting?sort=3&page=1" rel="nofollow">http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/library/chinese painting?sort=3&page=1</a></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170220_175926_zpszdr2d3mu.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170220_175926_zpszdr2d3mu.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170220_175926_zpszdr2d3mu.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><br /></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150828_zpsvm0sxvw3.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150828_zpsvm0sxvw3.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170225_150828_zpsvm0sxvw3.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150824_zpsu8cueldn.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150824_zpsu8cueldn.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170225_150824_zpsu8cueldn.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150821_zpsaf6718lf.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150821_zpsaf6718lf.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170225_150821_zpsaf6718lf.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150816_zpssjvcoy38.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150816_zpssjvcoy38.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170225_150816_zpssjvcoy38.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150800_zpsfszjksux.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170225_150800_zpsfszjksux.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170225_150800_zpsfszjksux.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><a href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170224_175524_zpsrqhcudnp.jpg.html" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://s393.photobucket.com/user/anyantiques/media/chinese%20painting/20170224_175524_zpsrqhcudnp.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/anyantiques/chinese%20painting/20170224_175524_zpsrqhcudnp.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a>
</p><p><br /></p>

I'm not sure but I think that the third character is wrong because I could not find it and think that it should reads "わ せ 辰 : WASE-TATSU or RESI-TATSU"??. Am I correct?? The hairstyles are Edo period and can be found on 17th-18th c woodblock prints, but this one is not that old and it is also not a woodblock print. Appears to be an inked drawing that was over painted then highlighted in certain areas. Or could have used acrylic on darker areas. Acrylic paints were widely used in 20th century Japan. If you click on one of the pictures or link below than you can see some other closeups which are linked to a photo album with more pics. Any help is welcome.
