Yes, @Simona, you are correct. There are 2 lines of script below the signature, albeit much smaller. I think the first line reads "CJ + OC" and the second line "08 Jan 12". The second line is much harder to read, so I am not sure of the "12". Often there were multiple marks on a cameo, that could include anything from inscriptions to loved ones, inventory numbers, store info, cameo carver initials if it was an assembly line process of making cameos, even the price of the cameo. Maybe this cameo was given as a gift, perhaps for a wedding?

 

Hi Simona, Baby Bacchus is holding a thrysus. Here is a description from wikipedia:

A thyrsus/ˈθɜːrsəs/ or thyrsos/ˈθɜːrˌsɒs/ (Ancient Greek: θύρσος) was a wand or staff of giant fennel (Ferula communis) covered with ivy vines and leaves, sometimes wound with taeniae and topped with a pinecone or by a bunch of vine-leaves and grapes or ivy-leaves and berries, carried during Hellenic festivals and religious ceremonies.[1] The thyrsus is typically associated with the Greek god Dionysus, or his Roman counterpart Bacchus, and represents a symbol of prosperity, fertility, and hedonism similarly to Dionysus.[2]
