PS - I went with Stollen as it is not an uncommon name in the neck of the woods - or wasn't when I was younger...............

Hahaha Love this thread! Don't ever worry about moving around topics! It all comes back around in the end!

Some people during this period just had some crazy handwriting!!

Not just "back then"............I have been using a pseudonym for well over fifty years, but I have to sign legal documents with my real name - and no one in the past fifty years has been able to figure out my real name due to my handwriting. Not by design, but by ineptitude and impatience with the length and difficulty with my name (over 100 letters with hyphens and umlauts, etc.)..........one reason that I am grateful for word processing programs............I even write grocery lists "on the computer".................

    Hi komokwa,
The umlaut is the two tiny dots above a vowel in Germanic languages. If you cramped up with 100 checks a week, think of 50 patient charts a day having to be written out and signed.

Yes that's a lot of writing.
The 100 checks ...were factory paychecks....so....all at once ...once a week.
