    Hi Jerry,
Just a note. She has very short hair which means she had a serious disease. It was common to cut all the hair off to help with recovery.

Thank you for the info, I didn't know that! After doing some research I believe I found her via a genealogy website, & indeed if it is her she died @ age 18. So sad

I think the one on the right looks like Margaret Hamilton.

I wanted to briefly revisit this photo, it appears that the men's 3 piece suit became popular in the 1860's, as well as checked/plaid fabric. If that is correct, could this photo have been taken in the 1860's? I know that tin types were used for a while, so they may be harder to date. Thanks in advance for any answers or comments.

Consider that the suit might be a hand-me-down, and could be much older that when the photo was taken.

It comes from a collegue on a French forum.
It is about a animation you can ad to your old pics.
    I am showing his example.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Many people on Facebook are doing those animations. I'm not a fan, but to those who are -- Enjoy!

The one on the right grew up to be Kevin Bacon! (or maybe his grandpa).

Thanks for the tip, the suit doesn't appear to fit great (too large), so perhaps it's indeed a hand me down. I had not even considered that.

Good eye, I hadn't even noticed he might be missing part of his leg, although its kinda' hard to tell in this photo. Wish there was more I could go on within this pic. I'm still learning about these cool 19th century photos. The Phototree website has been really helpful!

Can anyone tell me if the man in this CDV photo is wearing a civil war uniform? I think he is, but I know next to nothing about civil war uniforms. He appears to be wearing a pin too, but I can't quite make it out. Does anyone know of a good website for researching civil war uniforms? I've found a few but they don't go into much detail about identifying uniforms from looking at old photos. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Confederate 1st Lieutenant with the double stripe collar badges. Can you look at the buttons with a loupe to see if they have the eagle with downturned wings (general officers).
