    Bev, if the restorer used water to clean this, he may have corrupted the ground on the canvas. Rabbit skin glue, no matter how old, can react to water and become soft again. If that's what he did, it's the shrinking as it dried that caused the cracking.

    That estimate seems excessive. Have you tried to get another estimate?
