They are individually mounted (probably by machine)&nbsp; on black fabric and there are remnants of black paper over the fabric. It is flexible, and since the stones are attached to the fabric &quot;on the bias&quot; it drapes nicely. This small piece weighs just about 1/4 oz, so a garment would be very heavy.
