Fig, the article on "Politics, Enterprise, and Design: The Nature and Influence of Windsor Chairmaking in Early Federal Rhode Island" is very interesting. Thank you for posting it. Duxbury chairs is not only mentioned in the a footnote but also up in the article:

"Chairs with gougework dots apparently were once common along the South Shore of Massachusetts and came to be known as “Duxbury” chairs. Supplementary information expands the production area. A fan-back side chair with gougework dots has a highly figured chestnut seat and stylistic features that strongly suggest a Rhode Island origin."

Gee, like you said the Gutenberg Project does have drawing. Here's a direct link to the drawing:

Thank you again for your research, Fig!

Ah, yes. The era of Solid Rock Maple furniture. This house was full of it when we moved in and of course hubby's mother was moving into a condo and wouldn't take it with her and his siblings didn't want it but none of them wanted to get rid of "Mom's favorite pieces." I finally prevailed. I have no idea what they did with it as long as I didn't have it. There was a rocker similar to this. The cushions had matching fabric to the sofa and chairs that had maple arms and little skirts. Like this chair but with the red fabric. 4e4020acbc030244629cc3d94171c22f.jpg il_340x270_648198483_obpc.jpg

Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack your thread for a rant. Did I mention she had the same wallpaper, too?
