Featured Question on turquoise earrings

I agree about the charm of unmatched stones in old turquoise jewelry.

 

Thank you @evelyb30 for mentioning chrysoprase being a hot stone in the Depression era. I have an art deco pin that I always wondered about, so I took a closer look at it hoping the green translucent stones might be chrysoprase, but unfortunately they're glass. I should have known they'd be glass because it also has rhinestones and an inexpensive setting. It's missing some rhinestones and a center dangle, but I like the design and wish I could restore it, but I don't have any flat-back rhinestones the right size in my junk jewelry stash.

 

Drat. What about three square ones that match?

 

Unfortunately all I have are some dull/clear flat-back rhinestones that are a little too large. I've thought of taking out the remaining rhinestones if I could find something blue that would fit the whole space, or be cut to fit--maybe from an old cobalt blue plate? I know people cut small pieces from porcelain plates for jewelry or mosaics, so I guess I'd just need the right tools and would have to set it flush so the edges wouldn't show. Then I could reset the blue rhinestones into something else so they could be used for the missing upper dangle.

 

That's a thought. That or a real stone maybe, if one turned up.

 

I should measure the space and keep a slide gauge in my purse just in case.
