Thank you all for your reply. She is in desperate need of a dining room set. Her current table and chair set from her husband's family is on its "last legs" as they explain it. They are a family of four with two (sometimes) rambunctious daughters under 8. Apparently, their older roundish (not quite as expandable) table isn't something they like either in their newer home - boxier type dining environment. Even if it weren't falling apart.

So, I thought these chairs a good bet to donate to her. I have some caned (and other chairs) too I could give them, but at their age I can still envision climbing, climbing up on a knee, horseplaying, and the like. Puncturing caning in other words. I will definitely pass on (convey) the fabric opinions to her! She will have to recover these. She has 2 cats also. That was another reason I asked. They might scratch up the lower legs if they are not declawed.

As everything is rock-solid sturdy in terms of framework, I believe based on what I'm reading here this set matches ok and these chairs will suit her well into the future. As everything is rock-solid sturdy in terms of framework, I believe based on what I'm reading here this set matches ok and these chairs will suit her well into the future. Not particularly valuable, but not disposable either. And, maybe something she could maybe make her own and/or possibly hand down someday too with a little work. Thanks for the kind words and opinions everyone.
