Still hoping some other lucky person will snag it. I’m determined to wait for their month-end discount sale but hopin’ he’s gone before that. I really gotta shift my focus from accumulating large paperweights to getting the electrical system upgraded so I can run more machines.

But remember I’d be buying it as a paper weight or boat anchor, don’t care too much if it works or not. But even if it has a problem I’d bet a lot of money that 3/4 of it still works fine; it has built-in redundancy.

Ah. Such things were meant to be bulletproof, as you know, so can surely be repaired or modified. :)

Yes! And maybe the red is a rare and original color variant? Looks like it has been red for a long time, at any rate.

I think orig color was light green, as there are some small areas that were missed in repaint or scraped afterward, that show this color. See middle of base, which the repainter perhaps had trouble reaching. There’s also some red slopover on areas that shouldn’t be painted. Maybe the green was Leland-Gifford’s standard color. The belt-drive 4-head linked above had that color.

Oh, come on, you know you'd be so sad if someone else bought it.

You are correct of course. Unfortunately that sadness lasts only long enough for me to find something even more useless on which to waste money! This chapter will have a happy ending if I resist temptation until sale day, QUADZILLA is still looking for a home, and I pounce.

But machines are so beautiful, and they can last a long, long time.

Ok I’ve put this one to sleep until end of next week, the sale at drill seller’s place. The sale price will be $800. and I’m fine with that, so I told the seller to put it on my account if still unsold when sale starts. Now I can forget about it and devote full attention to even more pressing things. Shipping won’t be much as it will make up only about 5% of next “dedicated” truckload, so in simple terms that’s $1500. X 0.05=$75. Uh oh, wasn’t the truckload I’m still unpacking supposed to be the last one?

    Somebody bought it! :arghh:

Well there’s still a heat-treating furnace I could get, maybe, if people ignore it until sale day, and that’s something I could actually use.

Oh well, that’s life. The older I get the quicker I get over the ones that get away. Depending on how attached I am to the idea of owning a given item, these days my recovery time ranges from a few minutes to maybe an hour for stuff I’ve sought for years. Another will come along or I’ll find something way better and totally forget about the one that slipped by.

I think I’ve landed the heat-treating furnace, sale price something like $250. Wish I’d saved photos, but it isn’t too pretty. Shape and size are like a refrigerator, and the top has a ceramic box inside that gets up to 2250 deg. F. You use it to temper, anneal, normalize etc. carbon steel so it has the mechanical properties you want, after you’ve machined it to the shape you want. It weighs 750 lbs; must have a transformer in the bottom part. Anyway it should be useful where the red QUADZILLA would have been an exhibit and perhaps an inspiration.

Those are never pretty. No need abs worked hard anyway.
I worked in a shop where the owner, supposedly, invented his oven which was so finely tuned he could manipulate the color of steel and titanium by the height the item was from the bottom.
He colored a lot of the salmon decor items that have been popular around here.
No need to use a torch and quenching.

Many years ago now I made the display that was on top of Haleakala on the Hawaiian island of Maui at this shop.
    :)
Probably has been replaced by now.

Here’s the heat-treating furnace I bought after QUADZILLA escaped. Remember about size of refrigerator.

Buying the cheaper item made me look around a little for other metalworking tools I need and I found this flexible-shaft grinder/buffer, basically a Dremel tool on steroids. Instead of holding a small fractional-horsepower motorized tool all in your hand, the Motor is big and heavy (may be 2 or 3 horsepower) so is mounted separately.
