I wonder if it was drilled at the factory or if it was done later.

HHMMM, the hole looks very clean, could have been done at the factory. Does anyone know if Newcomb did that?

Good question! Apparently they did make lamps. Is there a way to tell when this hole was done? First pic is looking down inside the vase, second is from the bottom at a bit of an angle 20241211_163509.jpg 20241211_163535.jpg .

So....I was back at the house today and asked about the relative that worked at Newcomb. I was mistaken....it wasn't the great aunt who worked for Newcomb. She made the FABULOUS quilt in 1887 that was hanging in the den (I'll have to show pics). The home owner was the only child of Vincent Axford (potter) and Eloise Clark Axford (decorator), both of whom worked at Newcomb!!! The pieces that I saw at the house were ones that her father had designed. I feel like I got special showing.

That is SO COOL that she basically had her own well documented museum. What a treat to see.

No wonder they sent them to auction. With that pedigree, price goes UP. I hope the family kept the quilt.

They're going to a museum. I got to see these when I was there yesterday. So pretty! 20241217_095858_resized_1.jpg 20241217_095902_resized_1.jpg

And here's the incredible quilt. It's going to a museum too. Each piece of fabric is sewn using a different stitch that isn't repeated. Amazing! 20241209_103340_resized_3.jpg

Nice! I can see why they framed it.

What fun. Thanks for sharing all this, Sassafras! Plus your "keepsake" has a WONDERFUL story to go with it. :)

And that quilt. Wowza. Agree with Ruth, can see why they framed it. Gorgeous.
