This is a Louis XVI style balloon-back chair. The similar one in the Ruby Lane link is labeled as Louis XV style but I think it is more transitional. It does have the cabriole legs typical of Louis XV style so they may not be wrong in labeling it as such. The OP's chair has the straight legs and is very typical of the Louis XVI style. All that said, I do think this a late 19th century revival piece. It is possible that it is 20th century but, if so, from a quality maker. The wood seems to be walnut and I can't tell if it is hand carved or done by machine without closer examination.

The carving could be machine cut and hand embelished/finished.

    Nice chair.:)

I haven't had time to take the pictures yet. When I heard that we were going to get 75 to 85 mph wind gusts and a huge storm surge with this Nor'easter storm, I went into panic mode. I live right on the coast so we had a lot of pre storm preparations to do. I brought the chair inside so I'll get some pictures up later today. Right now, I need some sleep. It's 4:30 a.m

What a storm! I finally took some close-up photographs of the chair. One leg has a repair as you can see in the photographs. I think the dirt/dust has become one with the chair.

Thank you for looking and for the education. I am a little excited that I got it right. What little knowledge I have about furniture, I learned from the board. THANK YOU!

Victorian Mahogany side chair on tapered front legs and sabre back legs. Re-upholstered obviously but a goody.
