Lovely ring! The W stands for Warsaw, where it was made. Where did you read that the letters were only added until 1939? Not so. Your rectangular mark was used up until 1963, when the shape of the mark seems to have changed to a lozenge and male figure faced to the left instead of the right (not quite sure on this)... but the letter/figure/number continued in use. The 3 stands for the gold fineness... in your case, 585 or 14K. In Poland, the helmeted male head was/is used to indicate gold, a scarved female head for silver, a horse's head for platinum, and a dog's head for palladium. The single head stamp appears to indicate that parts of the item were imported (the coral and/or the gold), then the the head stamp with the letter and number gives you the city of manufacture and the fineness. DISCLAIMER: I'm no expert, this info was gleaned when I was researching some Polish jewelry that I own.
