I call such things an optical confusion.

 

It's not something one is used to seeing and it can challenge your senses.
Try to draw or paint one that's at sea. It never looks right unless dead straight on docked or at 90* to it docked.

There is no signature on the front.

 

Here is the best and most I was able to pull out of all that darkness for a signature....on SSlava's painting.....someone here should have a couple of good guesses now??? My guess is "C Jensen"....but I wait to see what others have to say!!!!!

 

Good work Aquitaine. So far all I can find is a marine artist by the name Alfred Jensen, unfortunately the signatures do not match.

 

I got you beat. I've been on board a couple of dozen times.

 

Unless it's a print, $70 is a steal for a marine painting around here.
