Finally had a chance to sit down and look through some references, didn't find this salt, but there is a similar piece, in both shape and decoration, in Heacock & Johnson's '5000 Open Salts', #4731, described as Meriden silverplate, circa 1880 - possible, but over the years have found this book, while excellent in some areas, is often incorrect or a bit 'off' on silver, and didn't find similarly decorated pieces in 1883 or 1886 Meriden catalogs. Also found pedestal salts with similar decoration, dating from 1859 into the 1860s, in the Tompkins' 'Gorham Handbook of Open Salt Dishes', and Rainwater's 'American Silverplate' has a cut from the 1867 Meriden catalog showing a similar pedestal salt with beading, diamond knurling, and monogram cartouche (page 331, figure 12). The other two clips are from Strickland's 1866 catalog, showing a couple of pedestal salts, one with engine-turned band, and and similar banding on a goblet.

~Cheryl

From H&J's '5000 Open Salts' (best pic I could get):

From Rainwater's 'American Silverplate':

From Strickland's 1866 catalog:
