Wow! Those tins are fascinating but the value is surprising, even so! Ha, I'll keep looking, you never know what's going to turn up.

Don't worry, I'm not in the least bit tempted to go anywhere near them with a tin opener ;-)

I would try listing them on ebay or etsy if you can. I see many folks buying old cans such as this for decor and/or staging.

If any of the cans still have food in them, beware if you see the top or bottom bulging. It means there's gas expanding inside and the can could burst.

My mother had some old cans in the top of her kitchen cabinet that burst. What a mess it made!

After the war was over we got regular packages from relatives in USA, including tinned bacon. I don't recall any real shortage of food, but they certainly had an exotic value. This may have been my introduction to dried bananas.

That's a great article, and photos too... and probably explains the tins I found. I've looked to see if there are more, lurking in other cupboards, but so far these are only two. I'm sure they must have been sent to my grandparents.

Eek! One of them is bulging slightly. Maybe I need to put it out of harm's way!

Maybe the bulging one would be a good candidate to sell opened and emptied. :)

I don't know the safest way to open a bulging can? Maybe a small puncture first?
