Featured Old Disassembled Benches Heavy Metal Cast Iron? Antique?

    I think you already figured this out, but these are not victorian era original (but victorian-style as you said); they are 20th century re-castings. The large piece is indeed the back, probably surrounded with wood as in the picture below. If your goal is to sell it, I think you'll have much more success putting it together first as a functional bench - use some hard wood 1x stock - but only if you have a source to get the wood cheap (otherwise the wood cost will overwhelm any possible profit). https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdx...wood-and-cast-iron-park-bench-w001398253.html

    As gregsglass stated. The backs and seats were wooden slats. I bought one set of ends at a garage sale thinking they were old as they had been sitting outside for some time. Nice and rusty. Then I saw a similar bench at one of the big stores brand new. They're very nice reproductions but the slats were made of a poor wood. I went ahead and put oak slats on mine. And yes, I put Linseed oil on it each year to make it last.

    Agree with Jeff Drum. And it's iffy as to being cost effective to restore. It has to be a "project" that you enjoy.
