"FTW" clothing has been around for two decades or more...............it originated within a sort of neo-political music culture revolving around the perceived hopelessness of the current state of humanity. Like so much that started with a message and a purpose, it became debased and middle class main stream by those who had no idea what the original message was, only adopting it because of the "thrill" factor.

Other cultures are often clueless about offensive words in another language. I was showing a group of Finnish teenage girl basketball players around Boston once. We were in the elevator going up the Prudential tower with a bunch of businessmen and the girls were all saying f**k this and f**k that and I told them to shush. The two coaches asked me why and I said it was a bad swear word and one of the girls said, "Oh, but it's in all the songs." Of course they were listening to rap so they thought this is how all Americans talk.
