Featured Oddities

Northwest Coast 1st Nations artists don't always work within their tribal designs.
It's well known how they made European images for the late 1800's tourist trade.
But this , I think qualifies as an oddity in the modern era.

One of my most favourite jewelry artists, Russel Smith , RIP...was commissioned by a wildly popular TV show , shot in & around Vancouver BC , to make a cast sterling pendant for the cast and crew.

I'm thrilled that I actually found a photo of him wearing one.........

Santa Claus wing-walking on a WWI German biplane? Oh, he has an axe. He's chopping up his plane mid-flight?

Guess he's counting on Dasher, Dancer et al to come rescue him mid-air. Not a good bet, Santa.

red baron plane I created ,it was a whirly bird and when the propeller spins it makes the guy chop ,It was just a guy on a stick and I found or made the rest of it .it has been out there for 15 years but the propeller busted off years ago

Hmm...oddities. How about a 19th century wax model of a chicken embryo -



Or a rookery mounted on a fossilized walrus (?) bone -



Or a pipe smoking nomoli -

 

only thing odd about the rookery ........is the baby seal !!

 

I'm guessing Russel Smith did the alien pendant for 'X Files ' ?

 

I have a similar rookery made of a fossil walrus tooth or similar, but the birds are penguins. Heaven knows where it went.

 

Not sure why I bought this since spiders freak me out......
