    I just remembered something.
A while back there was a show on tv that featured weird or unusual collectibles.
There was one collector shown who had all these medical devices and I think he showed off the one you have and said that that is where that term blowing smoke up your tush came from.

    :p:p:p:confused:

    I think not :stop:
I found a similar example from the Science Museum, not dated unfortunately.

Found another very similar. C1835 so late Georgian/early Vic?

Note to self, be careful what you google, I’m getting very dodgy adverts popping up now :jawdrop::stop:

Oh eeew, LOL! Did it never occur to anyone to just eat a little fiber? I wonder if this worked, is tobacco considered fiber? Probably not in smoke form. Can't wait to tell DH what interesting item was on the board Today!!

You know, this thing might have worked a little. Assuming those ivory thingies went where the sun don't shine, it's possible that the intrusion was enough to get things going. (oh no!! I didn't just type that!!) And yes, I agree that this will sell and fast!

You know who uses them and who doesn't by the tobacco stains on their under britches.

Also, when using the term "blowing smoke up your butt" nowadays means you're full of sh** so that also has a new meaning which makes perfect sense now. Ha ha.

I had no idea that was where it originated until this gem landed with me. I love it when something old teaches me something about our modern language or lives.
Even if it has made everyone cringe!
