    Gasp!!!!! $4,138.
Pretty handles. This is great information about the design. It make sense to create a system that made desks portable and interchangeable. I will take some photos of the circular fasteners and the pegs. (I just posted the seller's pictures because it is dissembled in my garage.) Perhaps they will be a clue to the manufacturer. Thanks for tracking this down. I very much appreciate it.

I have a built in secretary that I use. I got rid of my desk, when I started to use a laptop. This was intended to be a table with drawers.

Sounds like a great present. Lots of space on top. Did you take photos?

    Yeah, that works.
That's the problem at the moment with desks, they have not found a new niche in a paperless world & prices have fallen dramatically.
I see very nice period 18th-century slant lid desks in solid walnut-cherry-figured maple going for a song at auction, no one wants them.

As you can see, we left one of the bottom trim pieces back at my friend's store :

It is. I've never seen one like it before.

Your only choice is to leave it as is or replace the oak plywood top completely.

I saw a lot of beautiful pieces of furniture going for large bucks, but also a lot of junk pieces for little or free. I only looked at local pickup. My county has 10M folks though, so there is a wide range.

Wow! That's a lovely hunk of wood. It's big without being massive in appearance. The color is awesome. Thank your DIL for sharing.

I was just concerned about the loose edge coming up. When I bought it, I hadn't recognized it value.

I’ve also been in the market for a desk. I’ve been browsing the local online marketplaces for months. A handful or two of desks in the style of yours have come up for $100ish-$200ish or so. No one advertised theirs as modular though. I have a old smaller sedan so that would be perfect for me. I’ll have to start inquiring if they are. I’ve always liked that style. I have old oak file cabinets that would look at home next to one of these. I had been waiting to find a desk worth renting a truck for.

I agree that more traditional and heavier desks are going cheap. But I've seen higher demand for mid century and contemporary desks since everyone started working from home last March

Speaking of massive desks and low prices, I've got one of these 96" wide beasts in my refinishing queue. According to the seller of the one pictured (1stDibs dealer) it was made by B.L. Marble of Bedford, Ohio. I picked it up at a Habitat Restore and they practically paid me to haul it away. Now, I just need to find someone around here with an ego big enough to put it in their office. marbledesk.jpg
