It's for marking in metal or possibly wood but also could be for punching thin metal or leather/fabric.
It may be too sophisticated, methinks, for hand use. It probably fit into a
    machine.

I've seen something similar to that before. It was an upholstery gizmo if memory serves, but being for leather upholstery would make sense. Just don't ask me how it works.

    How does it work? :hilarious:
    Sorry.
    Actually not.
So do we have it identified, then?

    I'll try again....
I now have no doubt it fits into a machine either driven by hand or mechanically...
This is why it has some 'meat' to it.
It is why it has adjustments possible.
It is why parts can be replaced as it wears.
I will still say it is to punch, or at least mark, thin materials of any kind though likely for one specific material.
It may simply set eyelets in something, footwear or whatever.

I stand by for a solution beyond this....

Would that be compatible with Evely's thought? Marking on upholstery?

It would probably punch a hole not mark it.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    He's off losing golf balls!

    EDIT
The trunk position is different, but the head is still similar in profile, facing left...
    Hmmmmm...

    EDIT
Well, companies do change logos over time... like the John Deere stuff with 3 legs, then 4 legs on the deer.

And turning the air blue? Golfers who look all nice and polite most of the time develop the foulest mouths when a ball develops a mind of its own.(LOL)

It's a precision instrument - you can set the diameter precisely. The tool looks like it might be a drill. If you were a sign or plaque maker, you'd need different screws for the weight of the thing you were mounting. (speculating)

It's also why many drink. ;)
...since that is why the 'game' is 18 holes. ;)

So, after looking at all the tips that came in here, I managed to "google" me to the most likely answer to what this thing is!
Take a look at this link I found on Ebay and see for yourself!
Definately the same brand, and the box and lining inside is all the same!

So the story is my grandma was on the loft in their house, wich is built somewhere around the 1700-1800's. The previous owner must have left a bunch of things up there, cause she doesn't have a clue where it comes from.

Thanks for all the suggestions, you've been to great help! And I can't wait to tell my grandma what it is.

The box may look similar but the tools are very different. The brass plate appears to be a wire draw plate, the other tool looks like some kind of drill/reamer.The Ebay link is for sizing drilled holes and securing jewels in watches.

    Hi Hollyblue,
I definately can see that the tools are completely different, but the fact that this brand is named Seitz(?), has the same colour lining, material and look of the box is quite the same as the one my grandma has. Seitz was (is) a manufaturer of tools for jewelery and watches.
