    I thought at first that what was outside the cartouche were initials in Roman letters, then looked harder & realized they are also characters.

    So these are known as rug magnifiers or stamp magnifiers? I will look online after turning on the computer. Don't want to run down the phone battery right now.

    In Dutch they are called 'dradentellers', thread counters, for the textile industry and design. Maybe there is some similar term in English.
    I never thought of photographing through mine.:shame:

    Update: I decided to buy that type of product, but a different one. Mostly because I wanted to have it through Amazon Prime. Also, the seller reviews were a little sketchy.

    I started a new thread in General Discussion about magnifiers and using magnification in collecting, selling, or other uses. There I posted links to three items I bought!
